Emanuel Chvála (1851–1924)
Music critic and composer. He wrote for several Prague newspapers and journals, in particular, Politik and Narodní politika, he shared in the organisation of what were known as the Popular Concerts, and was active in Prague’s music circles in general. He wrote a series of articles about Dvořák for the magazines Dalibor and Hudební revue, and he contributed a study entitled Dvořák’s Symphonic Works to a festschrift on Dvořák published by the artists’ association Umělecká beseda. He left behind numerous recollections of the composer which were published long after his death (1949) under the title Antonín Dvořák in the Mirror of Memories.
