Chvala, Emanuel (1851 - 1924)

Music critic and composer. He wrote for several Prague newspapers and journals, in particular, Politik and Narodni politika, he shared in the organisation of what were known as the Popular Concerts, and was active in Prague’s music circles in general. He wrote a series of articles about Dvorak for the magazines Dalibor and Hudebni revue, and he contributed a study entitled “Dvorak’s Symphonic Works” to a festschrift on Dvorak published by the artists’ association Umelecka beseda. He left behind numerous recollections of the composer which were published long after his death (1949) under the title Antonin Dvorak in the Mirror of Memories.
