Slavkovsky, Karel (1846 - 1919)
Czech pianist and piano teacher. Distinguished performer and promoter of piano works by Czech composers. He established a piano school in Prague and introduced a series of recitals each year, initially in Prague, later on throughout Bohemia and Moravia. He performed the premiere of Dvorak’s Piano Concerto in G minor and was involved in the premiere of Dvorak’s Piano Quintet No. 1. Dvorak dedicated his piano piece Furiants, Op. 42, to Slavkovsky, which the pianist also premiered.
