Bennewitz, Antonin (1833 - 1926)

Violinist, conductor, director of the Prague Conservatoire, leader of the Bennewitz Quartet, and leading figure in Prague music circles in the latter half of the 19th century. On 7 May 1882 he conducted the premiere of three parts of the orchestral version of Dvorak’s Legends, and on 3 June 1896 he conducted the private premiere of the symphonic poems The Water Goblin, The Noon Witch and The Golden Spinning Wheel.
