Antonín Bennewitz (1833–1926)

Violinist, conductor, director of the Prague Conservatoire, leader of the Bennewitz Quartet, and leading figure in Prague music circles in the latter half of the 19th century. On 7 May 1882 he conducted the premiere of three parts of the orchestral version of Dvořák’s Legends, and on 3 June 1896 he conducted the private premiere of the symphonic poems The Water Goblin, The Noon Witch and The Golden Spinning Wheel.
