Karel Slavkovský (1845–1919)

Czech pianist and piano teacher. Distinguished performer and promoter of piano works by Czech composers. He established a piano school in Prague and introduced a series of recitals each year, initially in Prague, later on throughout Bohemia and Moravia. He performed the premiere of Dvořák’s Piano Concerto in G minor and was involved in the premiere of Dvořák’s Piano Quintet No. 1. Dvořák dedicated his Furiants, Op. 42, to Slavkovský, which the pianist also premiered.
