The manuscript for this occasional piece, written by Dvořák when he was nineteen, was found in the estate of the composer’s teacher in Zlonice, Antonín Liehmann. The music bears an inscription in the composer’s own hand: “Zlonice, 27 February 1860, during the village fair.” This is one of Dvořák’s first surviving compositions. The first known performance did not take place until 19 September 2020 as part of the Dvořák Prague International Music Festival.
