Dvořák wrote this little piece, typical for its variable moods, in the spring of 1892 for the Pianoforte collection, published in Prague by Velebín Urbánek. The piece is sometimes confused with the famous Humoresque No. 7 in G flat major from the piano cycle Humoresques, Op. 101, but they are similar in name only.
